Hi, I'm Julia

Every week, somewhere in my inbox, a woman works up the nerve to ask me some version of the same question:

“Okay but… what actually HAPPENS at a boudoir session?”

And I can feel everything sitting underneath it.

Bold boudoir portrait in Deland, FL — detail of a chain and leather harness against skin in moody low light.

Will I be standing there awkwardly in lingerie while a stranger points a camera at me?

What if I freeze?

What if I do it wrong?

Is there a wrong?

Babe, I love this question.

Because the fear of the unknown is doing about 90% of the heavy lifting in your nerves right now, and that part? We can take right off your plate.

So here it is. Your entire session day, start to finish, with no mystery left.

Before You Ever Get Here

We’ve talked about this part; the experience starts weeks before shoot day.

Once you book, we talk; about what drew you to this, what you want to feel when you see your images, what you’re excited about, and yes, what you’re nervous about too. That part matters. A lot.

Then we plan your wardrobe together, so you are never standing in your closet the night before, panic-spiraling over whether anything you own is “right.” I’ll tell you what photographs beautifully, what fits your comfort level, and what’s going to make you feel the most like yourself. (I wrote a whole guide on this one, because it’s the question that causes the most anxiety by far.)

By the time session day arrives, the big decisions are already made. You don’t need to show up with a plan. You just need to show up.

Your only jobs the night before: pack the outfits you love, get some sleep, drink your water, and let yourself be excited.

That’s the list.

You Arrive (Nervous Is Normal, Promise)

You walk into my Deland studio and the first thing that happens is… nothing scary.

There’s music playing; your music, actually, because your questionnaire asks about your taste for a reason. There’s a comfy place to settle in. There’s my favorite room scent in the air. There’s a few minutes to exhale and realize, oh. Okay. I can do this.

Close-up profile of a woman smiling with her head tilted back and fingertips at her lips, lit in dramatic low light.

We chat while you get settled, and I’ll tell you then exactly what I’m telling you now: you are allowed to be nervous. Almost every woman is. Nerves are basically part of the dress code at this point. And not once, not one single time, have they stopped a session from being incredible.

You do not need to arrive confident.

You do not need to arrive knowing how to pose.

You do not need to arrive as your boldest alter ego.

You just have to walk through the door. I help with the rest.

Hair & Makeup (Roughly the First Hour)

You sit back while a professional artist glams you up right here in the studio. You do not arrive “done.” We handle all of it.

If you have inspiration photos, bring them. If you know exactly how you want to look, amazing. If you have no clue and you’re trusting us completely, also amazing. Soft and glowy, romantic, or a little extra drama; we’ve got you.

And honestly? This hour matters more than people think.

It’s not just lashes and lip gloss. It’s the runway into the rest of the day. It’s where your shoulders start to drop. Where the studio stops feeling intimidating and starts feeling familiar. Where, for maybe the first time in months, nobody needs anything from you for a full hour.

And somewhere around the time your hair is finished and you catch that first real look in the mirror, you get your preview of what’s coming.

We Start Shooting (And I Never Leave Your Side)

Okay. Here’s the part your brain has been catastrophizing about, so read this one slowly, babe:

You will never be left alone to figure out what to do. Not for one single frame.

I direct everything. Where your hair goes. What your hands do. Where to look. When to tilt your chin. When to point your toes. When to breathe out. When to arch, when to soften, when to laugh at whatever ridiculous thing I said five seconds ago.

Posing is my skill. It is not a prerequisite for booking.

We usually start with your most comfortable outfit; often the oversized shirt or a robe, something easy to settle into. That first set is really just about shaking off the nerves and finding your footing. You don’t have to perform. You don’t have to magically know your angles. You listen to me, one tiny direction at a time, and before you know it you’re doing the thing you were terrified of like you’ve done it before.

And the whole time, you set the pace. Nothing happens that you didn’t agree to. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is forced. You are in control from the first frame to the last, and that matters deeply to me.

A few frames in, I do one of my favorite things: I turn the camera around and show you.

Because once you see what I see? Everything changes.

That’s usually the moment the nervous laugh turns into a real one. The shoulders drop the rest of the way. And suddenly you’re not wondering whether you’re photogenic; you’re realizing you already were.

Outfit Changes & Finding Your Groove

Over the next couple of hours we move through your looks. Different outfits, different sets, different moods, different versions of you.

Some images feel soft and dreamy. Some feel bold. Some feel like the version of you your partner sees. And some feel like the version of you that you maybe haven’t looked at clearly in a very long time.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, something shifts.

This is my favorite part.

It’s the moment women stop asking “is this right?” and start trusting themselves. Start suggesting ideas. Start settling into their body instead of apologizing for it.

That shift is magic every single time. And it’s where the best images of the whole day come from; not because you’re finally trying hard enough, but because you’ve stopped trying at all. You’re just there. Present. Owning it.

We’ll take breaks whenever you need them. We’ll drink water, fix straps, touch up lipstick, and reset as many times as it takes. And we will laugh a whole lot more than you’re expecting to.

Most women come in braced for the day to feel nerve-wracking start to finish. What surprises them most is how fun it is. Like, genuinely fun.

“On the day of, I was made to feel welcomed and excited. Everyone was professional and friendly. Julia made me feel comfortable and very sexy during the shoot.”

We Wrap

When the last frame is shot, we take a minute. Because babe… you did the thing.

You showed up nervous and did it anyway. You let yourself be seen. You stepped outside your comfort zone and gave yourself a day you’re going to remember for a very long time.

That deserves a second to sit in before we move on to my favorite part.

Your Reveal (Same Day, Bring Tissues)

Then you get a little break, and I get to work reviewing your images. Because your reveal happens that day. I would never make you wait weeks to fall in love with yourself.

And I’ll tell you right now: this part gets emotional.

Because this is where it all becomes real. The nerves, the prep, the courage it took to show up, the way you pushed past the voice in your head that wanted to talk you out of it… suddenly it’s all sitting right there in front of you.

Yes, the “wait, is that me?” moment is very real. It gets almost everyone. Bring tissues; I’m not kidding.

You choose exactly which images live on, and in what form: album, prints, wall art, digitals. We can even mock up your actual walls so you can see how those images will live in your home before you order a thing. Nothing exists that you didn’t love and approve. No pressure. No hard sell. No weird surprises.

The whole day, glam through reveal, runs about six hours. And nearly every woman tells me the same thing on her way out: it flew by.

That’s It. That’s the Whole Mystery.

No awkward standing around.

No being thrown in front of a camera to fend for yourself.

No moment where you’re expected to know what you’re doing.

No secret test you forgot to study for.

Just a fully guided, hyped-up, surprisingly fun few hours that happen to end in the most powerful images anyone has ever taken of you.

That’s the honest answer: supported, celebrated, a little nerve-wracking at first, and then empowering in a way that’s genuinely hard to explain until you’ve felt it.

Still Have a Question? Send It.

Whatever question is still sitting in your chest right now, send it to me. I’ve heard them all, and I answer every single one. Nobody has ever regretted asking me first.

Something else was there too, inside my brain, urging me to not back out. “You need this,” it whispered, so quietly I wasn’t even sure I’d heard it. But it was there, subconsciously changing my outlook on such a daunting prize...
